A simple reflective exercise for bringing what feels incomplete into awareness
In Living the Light, we explored the idea that our true nature is already within us, while experiences, emotions, beliefs, and old patterns can create coverings that obscure that Light.
Completion is one way of beginning to uncover what is beneath those layers.
You can begin this practice whenever you have some quiet, uninterrupted time. You may spend 30 minutes, two hours, or return to it over several days. There is no right amount of time.
Begin Writing
Take a piece of paper or open a private journal and ask yourself:
What feels incomplete within me?
Perhaps there is an experience you have never fully processed, something someone said or did, a relationship, a regret, anger, resentment, fear, disappointment, grief, or something you have carried for many years.
Write about whatever comes up.
Be as honest and detailed as you can. Don’t worry about making it sound good or making sense. Simply allow yourself to explore what is there.
As you write, you may discover something you hadn’t seen before. New insights may arise. You may realize that something you have been holding is ready to be released.
Let it come.
Let it be expressed through your writing.
Allow the Feelings
Emotions may arise as you do this. You might feel sadness, anger, frustration, or grief. You may cry. Allow yourself to feel what is present without judging it.
You don’t have to force anything out. And you don’t have to finish everything in one sitting.
If you become overwhelmed, stop the exercise, take a break, and return another time—or seek appropriate support.
This practice is about bringing awareness to what is ready to be seen and released, not forcing yourself into an emotional experience.
Notice What Has Changed
When you feel complete for the moment, put your writing aside.
Take a few quiet moments and notice yourself.
How do you feel now?
Perhaps you feel lighter. More peaceful. More energetic. More positive. Perhaps you simply feel that something has shifted.
Or perhaps you don’t notice much of a difference yet.
That’s okay, too.
Each time we become conscious of something that has been covering our Light, we have an opportunity to relate to it differently and, when ready, let it go.
This is the beginning of Living the Light.
Not becoming something we aren’t, but uncovering more and more of what we already are.
Continue the Journey
You may want to return to this practice whenever something within you feels unresolved.
And remember: you don’t have to uncover everything at once.
One layer at a time is enough.
